New tank

One of my friends offered me his old 10 gallon tank (wish he had done that earlier) and I'm pretty excited. He's also giving me a filter and a heater for it. So, I'm wondering how to properly set this tank up. Do I need to cycle it? If so for how long?

Also, I would love to get Henry some friends, what are some good fish to put in with him?

Yes, and until the nitrates are there and the ammonia and nitrites aren't. It's on average about a month. If you have an established tank you can put some of the gravel in pantyhose, tie it off and stick it on there. That will help seed the tank and maybe shorten the cycle. Unless you want to get a danio, make it do the cycling and then return it you could probably just throw a few flakes of food in to get things rotting and start the cycle.

You could have a dwarf frog or some cories, they do well in groups but you probably have the room.
