I think if the tank is too empty, it makes them feel unsafe and can lead to bitting. I had one HM in everything from a 1 gallon up to a 10 gallon. I think he just wanted to be a crowntail.

yeah, my one VT male i am fairly positive only bites his fins because he's in a divided 10 gallon with 2 other males. i had him by himself when i first got him and his fins started to grow back. i then got another 10 gallon and put him in there with some females, divided, and his fins were almost normal. once i moved him with the males in the other 10 gallon his fins were short again. :/ so i think in my fishy's case it's due to stress or seeing his tail and thinking its the male chasing him like someone else said.

I want to be a redhead but I have to bleach my hair first and bleaching hair that's all the way down to the middle of one's back and then dying it gets tedious and expensive.
