Reducing ammonia level?

Okay so my 10 gallon tank is currently doing a fish-in cycle.
Yesterday the ammonia measured 1 PPM. So I siphoned out 3 gallons (it's a 10 G tank but fills about 8 G due to decorations and keeping the water line 1 inch below.)

And today it is still at 1 PPM. I had some algae wafers for my two nerite snails, but I removed them. So I don't know if that is what contributed or what...

So I'm going to siphon again today. I don't want to siphon out too much, but don't want to siphon out too little... What % of water do you RECCOMEND I siphon out? Thanks!

Around 75% should minimize ammonia

A 50% water change is minimum when doing a fish-in cycle. But in this case, you are going to want to do a much larger one like Mo suggested.

Thanks guys! It went down to 0.25 ppm

.25 is an okay number for fish-in cycling, make sure that you do a 50% water change anytime it goes above .25 ppm.
