Yesterday I put a brittlenose plecko into the 10gal tank with the 3 girls and the ghost shrimp . . .
today, I CAN'T FIND IT!!
Where did it go?? I searched through the tank (as much as I could without upsetting the girls) around the tank (though getting out with .5 feet of sheer glass w/out water and a lipped edge would be a feat) and nothing!!
I have no idea where it went!!! Any guesses? Has anyone had this happen before?
Bristlenose plecos actually do need 20 gallons of water, it's not about the amount of water is about the footprint of the tank, they need 24" x 12" base footprint to thrive, which is a standard 20 gallon (long or high either one). Even though they only grow to around 5" or so they are still pretty active and need that big of a footprint in order to thrive. It's like putting a puppy in a box and expecting to be content with the space that s/he has, obviously the puppy wants to explore more and have more space to explore.
I highly suggest you return the pleco, along with getting more girls, three isn't enough. Bump the numbers up, with either 1 or two girls, the more girls the more the aggression gets spread out. Along with that I also suggest bumping the numbers of shrimps. :) They like to be in a colony of five or more, they're social beings too.
He's going to get 6 inches long, so he'll get pretty cramped in a ten gallon. Whilst space may not be a problem for a while, plecos do poop a heck of a lot. With a sorority in there, you're going to be overstocked.
Alright, when he gets bigger I'll move him. I'll also get more shrimp (the others got eaten by my male when he was in there).
I tried to introduce my older female into the sorority, but she was bullying the other females too much. Which is too bad, because then all my females would've been together . . .
On friday Petsmart is having a tropical fish sale, so I think I'll go then.
Anyone know where I can get cheap tank decorations? and some of that duckweed?
