My boys hate their filters

I have been camping for 2 weeks and my 2 boys went with me. Heater with us and filter at home. Just did my regular water changes. Now that we are home my orange boy, Poncho hates his filter. when it is on he clamps his fins and hides. When I turn it off he seems fine. My other boy does not seem to mind it except I have to turn it off to feed him. They eat from my finger. How many 50% changes do you recommend per week without a filter? 3 gal tanks...thanks in advance..:)

50% weekly should be fine for 3 gallons, if you do not over feed. The filters can remian off, you can baffle it, or get a sponge filter or a filter with an adjustable flow, for more options.

I find that filters are more trouble than they are worth in tanks under 5 gallons. I would just remove it.

Camping with bettas O.o Did you have a generator to power the heater, or was it a battery one?
