Betta and Pleco?

Hello!

I have a Pleco that i recently got(names, anyone? He looks like a little, well, suckerfishy pleco, about 1 in long) How can I tell his gender?
And.. um... how do I take care of him? I've heard that they will eat algae, but also need zucinni.. anything else? I was going to keep him alone until my big spawning tank is open, then would it be safe for him to live with a nice, calm betta? Sparta is totally chill and I know won't care if he gets a friend. The tank is a 20g, split 3 ways (BTW does anyone know how to make solid dividers??!). He'll be living alone until I finish my spawn, but what kind of food does he need??
Feeling like an aweful fish owner, i've had these before, but I don't think I took care of them right.... =((

So how do I take care of him?
Can he live with another betta?
Anthing else?
How do I tell his gender?

Darned it, this probably belong in compatibility... well.. it does refer to tanks..... and the tank size he needs.... darned it.

What kind of pleco....lots of different kinds and most are not suited for 20gal especially divided...If it is a bushynose/bristlenose- it can be housed in a undivided 20gal long term and the males will have a bushy/bristle on their nose as they mature....

It depends on what kind it is....not all pleco eat algae or veggies and some will have a diet change as they mature...going from veggies to meat.....

Until then-I would try algae wafers, sinking shrimp pellets and blanched veggies

Hi! He's doing good, might not be able to get pics for a little wee bit. Hang on with me here...

OK, I was *even more* of a fool and got live plants for breeding. Well, the spawn isnt going to happen for a while now, so I want to plant them. Pics of the type attached.

What do I need to do to take care of them?

Looks like anacharis to me. Stick one end in some gravel and it should be fine. Plants do grow better in sand, I'll add, but it can cloud your water for a couple of days. Large, back to back water changes can help with that. Adding fertilizer helps with growth, but with simple anacharis, is not necessary.

Your pleco will grow much to large, it is best to return it or find someone with a pond that wants one, as they do grow over a foot long.

When you do get a photo try to aggravate him so he sticks his dorsal fin straight up. Easier to ID.
