What partition? Like the divider in my tank? Yeah that might work, if the mesh is sufficiently far enough from the intake.

I wanted to thank you all for the advice. Mr. Chang is alive and swimming. Used the sponge and seems to be doing great so far. Added a banana plant and now he is investigating everything and seems to be enjoying his space.

Also have bubbles as well but there seems to be a bit of a current going on and so I am going to add maybe a live plant that can be on the surface to break up that current.

Thank you all again.

Yikes! Glad you got him out in time. I lost my first betta to a filter intake. I woke up one morning (just a few days after I got him), looked in his tank, and he was nowhere to be found. Later that day, I found him in the filter. He got sucked in at just the right angle to break his back, and he looked more like a plakat than the super delta he was. :( It was very sad.

Glad to see that you found a solution for your filter. :)

Yeah, I never thought I would be so attached to the little guy but I have saved his life about 4 times now and I wanna protect him now lol. Big bad martial artist and his delicate little fish. Lmao

I saw the sponge filters at the store...and then just got an ocello sponge and tied it around...works great, and cost me all of 99 cents. ;)

The bottle idea looks promising as well, I'd never thought of that! I may have to try that out on my next tank. :)

They make aquarium sponges the shape of the filter intake to wrap around it. My store didn't have any in stock so I bought aquarium foam, cut a small rectangle out and shoved it in the intake. My intake was trying to eat myfemale one day...

Same thing that happened to mine. He got sucked against the side of it. Felt so bad. You hear "fighting fish" and you think that it can take anything and must be impervious. Then you get it home and realize that they are so delicate. But they have such personality.. Don't think I could own another fish if I didn't own a Betta

I lost a fancy goldfish to the intake once, that's how we came across the bottle idea. (When I had 2 fancies in a 10g tank because I didn't know how to care for gfs.)
