I hate plucking my snails off the side of the glass. Assassins just drop but the ponds are the worse. I usually slide them to the top of the glass then they let go.

I be extra gentle and go slow. They retreat into their shells anyway, but still suction on the glass.

lol I love the snail idea.
As far as cleaning with snails, unless your doing a 100% change, you probably could leave the snails in there.
I haven't had issues with not acclimating them to the new water. But since there still is a live creature in your tank while cleaning, I'd pour the water in softly so as to not stress him....or her.

ack, Should have mentioned that. I haven't done a 100% in Bowsers tank in 2 weeks because of the snail eggs. I keep my eye on his water though, scooped him out and did a 50% and a 75%.
If you got one nerite snail you could do 100% cleanings by finding him and scooping him out.
