Tank is ready! No fish yet, though.

I have a new 5 gallon hex tank that has just finished a fishless cycle and is all ready for my first betta! Unfortunately, the offerings at the local pet stores leave much to be desired right now. (though they sure looked tempting last week, while my nitrites were still "Barney-purple". That figures.)

Anyway, I want to wait for a few more days till the stores get in their fresh stock of bettas, so I can hopefully pick out a really nice and healthy looking one. So in the meantime, how do I maintain my little tank? Should I continue to dose it every day with a couple of drops of ammonia, to keep those hard-earned bacteria going till the fish comes?

Yes, keep adding the ammonia to feed the bacteria or else they will die. Call your LFS to see when they get in new shipments of bettas. I know my Petsmart gets them on Fridays.
