Are polymer balls (Orbs) safe?

My little brother has a betta fish, and he got some polymer balls from a science class and was wondering if it would be safe for his fish? He would like to put them in the bowl, why I don't know why, same reason any little boy does what they do. lol

I know these are non-toxic, we give them to small children and they are safe to eat etc.

Thanks in advance!

What is a polymer ball? Isn't that just like a bouncy ball? Eh, I would not. Chemicals in some rubber could be toxic to fish.
