Both are fine, a 10 gallon glass would probably be best, acrylic can become a pain when it comes to scratches.

I'd go with a 10 gallon, you can divide it for two. That's what I'm doing. I am also new to the group and find it very helpful and interesting, I hope you do as well!

I got the bookshelf tank and Let me just say if I had the funds to have bought 3 more I would have. However For less go to petsmart and for like $40 there is a 10 gal starter kit with everythying you need minus a heater, decor, gravel and of course water and a fish my first big tank was one of those, i have since upgraded the hood and such but it is a GREAT buy! also Check if Petco is still doing the dollar per gallon sale right now. Also If you do like me and get a pals reward card you get $5 back for every $100 you buy, seems like it would take a while but trust me, you'll get there FAST!

Good luck with your choice!

Petco has the $1/gallon for 10G and up so a basic tank is only gonna be $10
