Try putting some floating plants in...possibly he is making them and they are getting swept away by the filter which you've bothered to put in your tank. It's good encouragement even if he hasn't made them yet.

Whaa- don't turn off the filter! Anyway, it may take him a while to catch on. Also, condition with a wide variety of good foods ranging from flakes to veggies to live foods.

Awww, he doesn't HAVE to form a bubble nest to be happy.

And your sister's is probably just still there because the water is slimy enough to hold it. Ew.

ya if feed him frozen bloodworms, f. brineshrimp, flakes, pellets, and peas. and he eats it all. he is not a typical picky choosy betta. none of the petstores in my city sell live food. grrr.
but i did read on the net that you could find a small housefly, capture it somehow, rip its wings off, and throw it to your betta. is this a good idea?

my sisters water does have that slimey white film on it. (there's a thread about it somewhere) she just clears it with her finger and then it comes back the next day.

Anabantids do love mosquito larvae, if you want to grow some yourself (just don't tell the neighbors!). Just leave a bucket full of nasty stale water outside and the mosquitos will lay their eggs. Your betta will munch that right up! Just be careful to pay attention so they don't all hatch, cuz wow, that would stink.
