Thanks for those awesome options Hallyx! I was looking at the TOM filter... you would just add more foam in the filter you said? Also it'll be alright with my betta AND his soon to be roommates in a 10gal? Thanks for all your much appreciated advice :)

Well, I don't think you can put more foam IN the filter. But you can rubber band some foam over the intake and---what I do---make a tube out of 1/2 inch foam (a 4x8 in piece rolls into a 4in long tube) sew it up and sew up one end. Slip it over the outlet. That's enough foam for a sizable bacteria colony, The rest in your substrate, decor and plants is a bonus.

What kind of tankmates were you considering?
