Does a small filter cartridge still have enough surface area for BB?

I was wondering about that because there are some really small HOB filters that seem perfect for a betta tank, like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005VE...2835614&sr=8-1

But they have really small filter cartridges....

Well this is all hypothetical... But it would be the slightly bigger model, this:
http://www.azoopalm.com/products/fil...on-filter-150/
And it would be in a 5gal tank with just a betta and no live plants...

You can always add foam to the intake, in the filter chamber and at the outflow. And you can't have too much foam.

Well it looks like the filter cartridge that's made for it is a little sponge looking thing...it's foamy

Its the right size for a 5 gallon tank. My only concern would be the suction. You might have to find ways to slow the suction down so your betta is not in jeopardy to getting pulled in and injured.

It has an adjustable flow :). But is it big enough to hold enough BB?
