Fin biting

Hello. How do you know if your Betta is biting his fin? Do you actually see him do it? Or is it just from looking at his fin? Thanks.

Its just from looking at the fins. If the look torn and eaten away but there isn't any black to indicate fin rot then you've got a tail biter.
