Filter Question

Hi,My tank is in its 3rd week of cycling and the nitrite is spiking..unfortunatly my filter(Interpet PF3) keeps stopping,i take it apart each time and then it functions again for a while(it has been running for a few hours now so maybe its sorted),anyway i wanted to ask if it does stop again i will have to go out and buy a new one so if i choose something else perhaps a Fluval 3 what would i do as im in the middle of a cycle..can i put the sponges in to the new filter and it will continue its cycle?

Or am i better off getting the same filter and transfering all the media over?

The interpet filter has only been running 3 weeks so i dont know why it is shorting out...could it be because the outlet was above the water for maximum agitation while cycling.

Now i have submerged it further than it was it has been ok.

If you have to buy a new filter then I would move the media over otherwise you will be starting again with the new filtration

Hopefully the pump will now been running - fingers crossed for you

Yes. Exactly. The cycle will continue.

If you can afford it, by all means, get a better filter.

Luckily it is still working this morning, perhaps evaporation caused the water to drop to low from the outlet.

As it is practically new i would be rather peeved if it broke down already.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

The bacteria can live several days without the flow provided by the filter. So there's no panic even if it does break.
