I recently read that collecting Mosquito larva is a very bad idea and potentially fatal due to the disease that mosquito can carry. I really wish I could recall the website that I read that information but t this moment I can't.

And yes, as toad said, they can be frozen?

Tell your mom that mosquito fly around everwhere. I also believe you can control it too before the population become to large by harvest everyday.

Ones with a big head are those about to turn into mosquito. You see the big black head and swim vertically up and down; they are about to become mosquito.

I would feed the big head (we call it "cow head" larva) larva first. I would not feed the "cow head" to smaller betta. In Vietnam we only feed the "cow head" larva to female (poor girls) because the male betta are consider fighters, and cow head can reduce sharp bite; I guess "cow head" dull the betta teeth (I do not fight betta). I believe no fighter feed the cow head larva to their bettas. For professional fighter they only feed their betta with medium size mosquito larva. Most, of not all, fighters don't even feed with blood worm.

Do you see the plastic pond right next to my natural pond (under construction)? This pond is being used to collect larva for my fish. Betta loves ML. One of my male betta under condition for breeding stop eating anything else after he tried live ML. After spawn he is better eat anything I give him or will go hungry for few days.

Here you go, the complete pond.

Nice pond

Tan... Don't you have problems with racoons/skunks stopping by in the middle of the night to fish?

How long do you feed your bettas mosquito larvae during conditioning?

Hi MSG,

Holy Cow Head. Man, I never got that much mosquito larva. I am conditioning them for 2 weeks. I will put the first pair in this Saturday.

How big is your larva pond? My is 75 gal and it does not have 1/100 of what you got there.

I don't have a pond, just a garden cart that's filled with rain water.

You saw the photos of the mosquitos I caught?

Yesterday catch was nothing compared to what I caught today.

I ended up using a finer meshed net today & should have easily netted 4000.

I had to scoop out the perlite bits first before I bought the mini kk back inside.

Here's a nice macro photo of the final harvest if you want to take practice your math skills

I'll take a better photo tomorrow.

I'm going to put half frozen larvae into ice cube trays before I go to sleep.

Since I don't use ice in my drinks, it's not a big deal.
