Water change help...

I have a 5.5g w one betta... and a 1.7g with one betta... what are the water changes i need to be doing... or atleast what do you guys do?.. i dont have a water testing kit... i hope to get one for xmass... let me know!!! thanks... ive been doing 100% water changes only bec i dont have a gravel vac

For a 5.5 gal I would do a 50% 1x a week and a 75-80 on the next change, then a full water change on the 2nd week..but on the 1.7 I would do 2-50% changes a wk, then a full 100% weekly..less water, more changes, keep checking the parameters from time to time, before and after water changes, to see how your doing:)

Oh, sorry just re-read your post, you don't have a WT kit..ok, follow that schedule you should be fine..

kk thanks... does it matter that i dont have a gravel vac... bec i know the 100% change deff cleans the gravel but without isnt the waste still in the water?

It can be, just take out all decor when doing the 100% and swish all the gravel around in the water before taking it all out..sometimes bi/wkly you can do a gravel rinse, take most gravel out, and rinse in a strainer..with hot water..no soap..:)

I have been doin it this way for both my 3gal and my 5gal tanks, for 3 months, with no prob's:)
