JackIL, I think I have an idea of what you're trying to do.

What type of filtration system were you planning to use?

If you're only going to fill it up to the ventilation/swinging door area, it's only going to be like a 6 gallon tank.

I'm curious to see how your project turns out.

filtration would be an eheim 2215, i'm going to soften the flow by allowing the out-take to hit some rocks on the way down. this is going to be a long and slow project because i need to make a stand, 24x18 footprint is an odd number.

heading to home depot tomorrow, having them cut the wood for me so i just need to screw everything together. i also have relatives from out of country visiting for two weeks, i'll try to update :D i can't wait

i will build something like this over the weekend.

the main difference when i build mine is that it wont have the center brace, as my tank is only 24 inches wide.

The guys @ home depot can make sharp accurate cuts like that?

I can tell from just that picture of the stand frame alone you have pretty high standards. I think it will turn out really well. Definitely something you want to photo document from start to finish so when you're done, you can appreciate the amount of work & time that went into creating your setup.

I don't ever recall seeing a stand on the regular retail market that comes with reinforced corner brackets.

I would throw in a center bracket just because it looks better.

They can make clean strait cuts, the biggest worry when they cut is if they cut on the measured line or outside the measured line, as that will throw off the measurement by a little. I had them cut my wooden blinds before and they did a good job, just watch them like a hawk!
