Exclamation Sick Betta ---- don't know what it is!!

My silver plakat developed a cloudy eye about 3 days ago; I thought he had injured it because he otherwise looked ok. Tonight his fins are clamped and he is hanging on the bottom and looking ill. Any ideas of what this might be or how to deal with this?

He is in a 2.5 gallon minibow and all water parameters are in normal range. I just did a 70% water change 2 days ago.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Is the tank heated, if so do you know the temperature? also when was the last time he ate, and how much?

The clamps fin indicate they are stressed, usually it leads to something worse. Aside from that there clamped how do they look? Torn or ragged? Do his eye look big and 'popped out' so to say? When he is looked at from above are his scales looking like a pinecone?

His eyes are not popped -- just one has clouded over. He ate heartily this morning and when and was swimming fine. This evening was a different story. The tank stays at 78-80 and it heated. Any suggestions??

If hes eating that good, very good. You should try googling to find out what it is (if you haven't already). It might be some kind of bacterial infection. Melafix should help with Cloud Eye (according to the bottle). I think your only supposed to do half dosses. Iv done full and mine have been fine. The bettafix is 20$ for 20 gallons or 11$ for 470 gallons. Hmm. . .
Ya, but anyway I thik treating with Melafix would be a good idea. I would get someone to back me on this first.

EDIT: What do you mean this evening was a diff story? Better or worse (I hope its better . . . )

Anything with -fix is not recommended. They have Tea Tree Oil which can harm their labyrinth organ.

Then what the point of making it just for bettas? >.<
Could you could the dose in half to make it safe? And will it always harm them? Or just if you use it for an extended time?

I still can't figure out what happened

Thanks for the posts and responses. Unfortunately my silver betta was dead this morning. Whatever he had was virulent. He was swimming and acting normal at 8am and when I came home he was clamped and on the bottom. All water parameters were fine. I have 6 other bettas and they are are doing great. His only symptom was the eye that clouded -- and that was only recent. But whatever he had killed him in 12 hours.

So it anyone has any ideas, please give me your opinions.

Maybe something internal. Those infections/parasites suck.
Maybe that pink/red bump on his scales was part of the infection?
