Species check

So I was told when I first joined here that my Betta was a veil tail, royal blue with purple wash. I don't think my fish is a veil tail, his tail just doesn't look like it. He is young, but I think he is a spade. I know it doesn't really matter, but it is eating at me.

He is a veil, his tail will continue to grow until it droops down like a veil. Young veils will look like that.

Look in the tails and colors section, look at the difference from veils and spades. His tail is already to long for a spade.

Agreed he is a young VeilTail. Young VeilTails will looks like spades. They actually sometimes look like round tails while they are young

Back in the early 90's you saw a lot of spade tails.. now, not so much. You're pretty much not going to find many male spades in pet stores (you're more likely to find a female by accident then a male). With the spade tail you should see more of a uniform lining.. both top and bottom equal in the tail- yours is angled downward, similar to young male VTs.

just an fyi species is the type of fish, ie betta splenden, which yours is, tail type is just a genetic modification of the betta splenden species :)

Thanks for the picks! Your fish look really nice.

I didn't know what young veil tails looked like. Thanks for telling me the difference.

Ya, I should have thought that out better. I had to post this right before I left for a couple days, so I haven't been able to get back on until just tonight.
