Ideas for "stems" to hold craft leaves up?

I'd like to try using the leaves and or flowers from the craft store in my tank. I just can't find the silk plants I want for a good price. So I bought a few leafy things from the store and slid the leaves off of the stems since the stems had metal in them. Now, I just need an aquarium safe "stem" to slide the leaves back onto. I tried using s thin section of the craft mesh I used for my dividers, but just one row of it was too big for the leaves to go on. Is there any sort of stick-type-thing I can use?
