Some people jar at 6 weeks to try and get rapid growth others jar until males get aggressive or at when you can tell if there male or female.

My local breeder told me I should bottle the males as soon as I could recognize them to prevent further injuries to its tankmates/brothers & Sisters. Mostly other rival brothers.

I wait until they start getting aggressive. Not just play fighting.

It depends on your goal. If you're planning to show, you need to jar them very early to avoid potential aggression/tear. The most common is 2 months (about 8-9weeks); by then you can determine their sexes. But if you're not planning on showing, you could keep them together as long as they stay docile.

IME, if fry are often disturbed (netting to move or to clean tank) they will become aggressive early. But if they weren't disturbed much, they tend to remain docile for a longer time.
