Chunks of Fins Breaking off??

Hey,

I posted a thread called fin rot or colour change and I got no responses, so I'm making this one.

I have a super delta betta fish which I've owned for about two or more weeks now. He darts around quite abit, and turning on his light isnt a very good idea as he constantly flares.

Housing
What size is your tank? 2G
What temperature is your tank? ranges between 82 - 84'f
Does your tank have a filter? yes (fluval - overflow)
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? filter pushes the 'clean' water out through a nozzle at the surface, agitating the surface.
Is your tank heated? Yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Give him betta pellets with an occasional bloodworm
How often do you feed your betta fish? once a day with pellets, usually a bloodworm at the end of the day.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? 20% changes every 4 - 5 days, and 100% around each month. (have another betta whom is doing just fine)

What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? got nutrafin aqua plus with this guy, so might as well use it. But I do have API water conditioner and a stresscoat conditioner too.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
Fins went from white with blue splotches to mainly blue, started seeing a LITTLE bit of red, not even sure if others could notice. He was put into a fluval 2g with filter, heater, and a couple of ornaments/plants(plastic) with substrate. He was climatised for about an hour before completely submerging the cup when we swam out.

How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
Hasn't really changed, still darts around sometimes, flares constantly with light on *rolls eyes*

When did you start noticing the symptoms?
About a week or so ago.

Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Water changes, took out plastic plants (Might be the cause?), added API stress coat, checked temperature.

Does your fish have any history of being ill?
Nope, hes new.

How old is your fish (approximately)?
Pretty darn small when I got him, and a couple weeks to water age they are when they just get to the store.

I honestly think its the fake plants, was going to get new real plants anyways.

He's tail biting. :/ Don't on the tank light for a week. If he's still biting, there's another reason. The main causes are stress, boredom, and heavy finnage. Just make sure the water is kept extra clean to prevent any infection. The fins will heal, but he still might bite.

Oh, silly betta! Ok i'll keep the light off, he doesn't seem to do it when the room light is on, just the fluval light. I'm still going to get a real plant to put in the just in case. I'll look into tail biting, but I'm assuming there isn't much I can do to stop him from doing it.

No problem, remember to QT the plant. There might be some hitchhiker snails.
