Exclamation What just happened???!!!???!!!

My betta, Zoro, just went crazy. I went up to his tank to check on he and he just went crazing (like one of those bettas that love to flare) except he was going so fast that I could hardly see him. Then, he just went limp and floated quickly over to the plant I put directly under the filter and got stuck, side ways. I unplugged the filter, thinking that he was dead but he just got back up and acted like his normal self. I turned off the light and filter to reduce stress from what just happened. What just happened? How do I prevent this from happening in the future? here is the info:

What size is your tank?10 gal
What temperature is your tank?78-80*
Does your tank have a filter?yes
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?no
Is your tank heated?yes
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?none

What type of food do you feed your betta fish?bettabites
How often do you feed your betta fish?2 times a day, 2 pellets each time

How often do you perform a water change?1 time a week
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?30-40 percent
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? stress coat and currently epsom salt to treat his bloat

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Hardness: my test kit said moderate
Alkalinity: --

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?it has not changed
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?I described it above
When did you start noticing the symptoms?Today, less than 30 min ago
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?no
Does your fish have any history of being ill? bloat and minor fin rot from when I got him
How old is your fish (approximately)? don't know, petstore fish

Thanks! I'm very worried.

that sounds like general stress to me. if there's no clear indicator as to what's causing it, you should keep his light off, and maybe consider draping a towel or blanket around the area surrounding the tank (held up over the top, so that air can still flow in) to give him a little bit of isolation. don't stop running his filter for too long, but if you regularly notice him being bothered by the current, you might need a lower power filter, or one with adjustable settings. the bloat he's recovering from probably isn't helping either, it can mess with a fish's equilibrium and make it hard for them to orient themselves properly, which could lead to his darting (trying to move fast and stay upright)
