how big is he? his coloration looks a lot like 90% of the king bettas out there...might wanna watch, if he is, he could get huge (and require at least a 5 gallon tank to be happy)

I bought him at the local pet store being sold as a female... in with the females.
They only ever have about three males at any one time each put in a tank with a community fish and all always with long flowy tails(is that veil tail?)so they would never know or probably seen a male like this unless they have done research in to bettas.

All the girls are dark colours and boys pretty much blue or red...not like some of the amazing colours i have seen on this forum,so i guess im lucky to have him and they would just put him back with the females anyway if i took him back...i did question the lady last time i picked up a few girls about a suspicious female(i now know male) that looked like this guy but with bigger fins...she said she would put it in with a male to find out.
So i guess they often have male plakats but just dont know it.

If he gets to big i will keep him where he is.

Plakats are usually 2-3x more expensive than the females. He should be fine in the 1.5G or the Biorb.

Too bad his coloration is really dark because it makes it harder to get clear photographs.

ALL female betta have a little white ovipositor sticking out behind the pectoral fins. Tiny white dot.

If you look for it in "baby betta" at petco you probably won't see it, its a chore explaining how to "sex" the babies.
