First cycling step

I'm cycling, yay!

Just tested, ammonia is very close, if not already at 2.00ppm. No nitrites, and have not yet tested for nitrates. I have the toe of some old nylons full of fish food just floating around in my tank, will this be okay? Obviously I will take it out and do a PWC if it gets too high, but if it gets too low I'll just add more food. Reason it's in a nylon is because it turns to mush after a while, and my tank is SUPER murky because of the free food from last night, it's disgusting.

So question is, will my nylon full of fish food be okay floating around? If it gets too low I'll just accommodate accordingly.

Thanks, enjoy the rest of the day :)

I'm in the process of cycling my tank also. Nylon should be fine, though I don't use it. I just throw in some of old sinking pellets that I use to feed my crayfish.
