I'm going to refer you to another thread:
http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=113246

To me your boy and the one on the other thread look about the same. I don't know exactly what you can do to help him but I did find another website with a thread of a fish who had the same thing or something similar.

You can try to treat it with an epsome salt bath, like i told the other fish's owner. You can also try using Maracyn 2 & if you're in an area where you cannot find those then T.C. Tetracycline or Triple Sulfa Powder, both by API may be able to help.

You should also be doing more frequent water changes. Atleast do 25% every week and about 80-100% every two weeks.

Okay good! lol.

I would try an ES treatment first, I know alot of people are fine with keeping their Bettas in it for a whole day+ at a time, but I've always used them as baths and only done 30 minutes tops at a time, but used daily. Anytime i've ever done one for longer my fish seemed to become more ill.

I'm assuming you know, but just in case, 1tsp of undyed, unscented ES per gallon, fully dissolved before adding the fish.

I hope this works for him and he gets better quick. If nothing changes within a few days or if it gets bigger I would go onto using the medication since these have been known to enlarge until they burst if they don't go away with ES.

Well that doesnt sound very pleasant - Is it contagious? or just genetic or something that just happens... I recently swapped his tank out with one of the younger guys I have as his fins are so delicate and he kept ripping them in the bigger tank.

I couldn't tell you. It could either be a tumor or a parasite, if it's a parasite it could be contagious.

There is also the possibility it could be a bacterial ulcer, like someone suggested on that other page ( http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/fr...ale-betta.html ). They suggested treating it with Maracyn2, but that fish's bump was massive so it may be treatable with the ES first.
