Are apples substantially different than mystery snails? Because my mystery snail has been in 82 with no problem.

No filter shouldn't be a problem if you did water changes every day, like 25%. It just means more work for you but it would work for a short term hospital stay.

I'm not going to do anything for now. Well the night, it's late. Apples are mystery snails. It's just that most people don't realize that. There are different species of apple snails, most frequently are pomacea diffusa. Slightly less popular (and illegal in some states!) are pomacea canaculata (not sure on the spelling, cana for short). There are other species as well, but they are slightly different. I'm not sure what family vivi... (yea no idea how to spell the rest of the name, Tikis trap doors!) anyways. Apple/mystery snails are temperature sensitive, I think they are happier in temps that would be suitable for WCMM, low to mid 70's (say 74). At the higher end of the temperature range the age out, meaning they grow faster, breed rapidly, and die quicker. At lower temperatures they are less active, live longer, and breed far more sporadically.

i think mystery snails are a kind of apple snail or the other way around...

plants will survive 86. Most plants anyway.
At 86F ich is known to stop reproducing, hence the temperature recommendation. otherwise you are just increasing thei reproduction rate. I believe 86 is imperative.

Iris is still clamped, but more active. The girls in the sorority look GREAT, no signs of anything other than nipped fins.
