Betta Always Clamped.

My betta has never showed his fins, EVER!

He swims all over the top half of the tank, and seems happy when I come to the tank. But I've never seen him show his fins. Any Idea what could be wrong? The tanks timp is about 78 and I make sure its cleaned once a week. I just don't get it.

Have you held a mirror up to him to get him to flare?

What size tank? What kind of filter are you using? I think I can see the water splashing back in, which might be stressing him out. Can he swim throughout the entire tank without being pushed around? Does the filter create a lot of movement on the surface?

I'm not sure what kind of filter it is, its a 15 or 16 Gallon tank. there is some movement throughout the tank he will hide on the left side behind the filter. I have some stuff set up in the corners so he can rest. I normally add some water once the water goes down below the filter so I don't hear the water splashing and I can sleep at night.

Considering the discussion we are having on tank size, maybe try putting him into an UNFILTERED 1 gallon container? See how he likes it. It may be that the size and water movement of a large tank might be stressing him too much. If he responds to being in a smaller slower moving tank, then problem solved!

He was in a 2.5 for a while. He never moved in there either. Just stayed in the same spot only moved to eat.

I've used stress coat

Is there anything I could do to to focus water flow or anything? Maybe a sponge that could dampen the flow of water?

I have a Fluval Sponge rubber banded to all my filter "waterfalls". It keeps the water nice and still.
