Exclamation Fin Rot? pic inside

I may be overreacting a bit, but I noticed Apollo (my betta) had a little red streak at the end of his anal fin and a reddish dot at the end of his body right before where his double tail begins. Sorry about the picture quality I took it from my phone.

mmm.. I would keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse then definitly treat it.
I would put in salt if you arent already!
My fish had fin rot for a few months and i couldnt figure out what he had! I figured it out yesterday though, I hope he recovers quick-ish

Its hard to tell much by the pic-but to be sure-complete this info sheet and add to this post-more detailed info the better...
Housing
What size is your tank?
What temperature is your tank?
Does your tank have a filter?
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
Is your tank heated?
What tank mates does your betta fish live with?

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
How often do you feed your betta fish?

Maintenance

How often do you perform a water change?
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Parameters:
Have you tested your water? If so, what are the following parameters?

Ammonia:
Nitrite:
Nitrate:
pH:
Hardness:
Alkalinity:

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
Does your fish have any history of being ill?
How old is your fish (approximately)?

Often the best treatment is fresh/dechlorinated water from water changes.
Use of aquarium salt long term is not recommended for this species-Its a great product to use for the right reason, dosage and duration.

Lovely fella by the way...

Thank you-he is one that I spawned....

Anyway.....In a 2.5gal without a filter-it really is only enough space for the Betta and maybe some shrimp and/or snails-The Oto really needs at least 20gal mature heavy planted tank and a lot more Otos since they are shoaling species.

IMO/E-filters are optional for this species and especially for the Long fin males kept in smaller tanks-Often the filter itself can be the cause of fin damage and stress. I would either remove it all together or keep it running all the time-when you turn if off- the beneficial bacteria can start to die in about 6 hours and when you turn it back on you can flood the tank with byproducts that can be harmful.

I would continue with your water change schedule of twice weekly...1-50% and 1-100% without the filter-re-home the Oto. Everything else looks good.

You may or may not need to get a heater-while 74F is okay for a healthy Betta-you might need to bump that up to at least 76F.

Watch the area in question and if it changes or he has a behavior change he may need a treatment-right now I would observe and keep the water quality maintained-along with good nutrition...

Keep us posted....

Thank you for the compliment otter, and thank you very much OFL for the advice. Today he is still very energetic and the red on his fin is fading! Removing the oto and filter.
