Echo

For the last couple of days I've had Echo in a quarantine tank on my desk. He was severely bloated, as he began to pinecone I realized he had internal breakdown syndrome (aka dropsy). He was being treated with epsom salt and Indian almond leaf extract while being fasted but he just couldn't fight it.

I'm utterly confused, his main tank was on the exact same cleaning schedule as Kaze's and had the exact same filter. It was cycled and - as far as I knew - stable. I must have missed something...

I'm so sorry for that.

Yea dropsy is nasty but not as contagious as people think. It's just wicked hard to cure. Often it isn't caught in time and if it is most don't make it. Don't beat yourself up over it. I was terrified when I got my first case. I hope I never see it again.

My confusion lies in that both tanks were maintained the same yet Kaze is absolutely fine. Dropsy is often (but not always) caused by poor water quality or unstable water parameters, both tanks were the same in this respect (both cycled, ammonia/nitrite/nitrate at appropriate levels) so I guess I can rule water quality out... I just can't figure out what caused Echo to develop this and pass on...

How long have you had him? I don't believe the poor water thing that much. Unless he could have had an organ problem before you got him. My girl died within a week of purchase.
