oO how do you do your tests? do you use half the amount of solution?

I do the tests the normal way ,it might look like half because i took the pic with the test tubes lying down flat on the chart ,i have heard of people doing ammonia test in half ,they fill the test tube half way and add 4 drops instead of 8 .

I should of checked for your response ,i think added a little to much ammonia i am at about 3 ppm ,i will cut the dose down tomorrow.I am new at this but i am pretty sure it has cycled because , my readings this morning for ammonia were 0 and nitrates were 0 again,it feels great ,cant wait to set up my new tank thx.
