Flare frequency?

My 2 boys are in a divided tank so I expected some flaring and even bought some leafy decorations (silk) to try and reduce this. However, it seems that with the tank light on at night my CT will flare at his reflection and my HM, while my HM doesn't flare as much but when he does it is usually at his reflection only. I'm going to keep the light off more often to reduce reflection flare but should I look into blocking their view more of each other? I know I also need a hide but I have nothing small enough that is glass to fit in there.... so I'll be looking for a small flower pot ASAP.

I would say at night the lights should be off anyways. Imagine how hard it is for you to sleep with the lights on. My tank is never on 24/7. When I am not home i shut the lights off and when it's night time I set it to the night setting which is only a dim glow.

Also how big is your tank? How often do you clean it? They could be sensing each other and getting set off.

It's a new 2.5 gal with a new fill. After turning off all the lights it seems they are fine, it's just where it's night/light on that they see each other and their reflections. I plan on doing 2 50%'s and 1 100% a week.

Most people on the forum say that a 5 gallon is recommended for any division of environment for betta fish.

I realize the size recommendations. And when I get a good chance I'll get something bigger. However for the time being should I be concerned about over flaring? If so do I just need to better block their view of each other?

Try to block the view with your plants and stuff if you want. I'm sure the excessive flaring will stress them sooner or later.
