Yesterday a friend of mine came up to me during one of my classes and asked if I wanted his fish, Neville. When I asked why, he told me because he didn't have time for it anymore and he was bored having a fish around. Even though I KNEW I shouldn't have any more fish I agreed to at least take a look at him and see if I could find someone to take care of him.
So I ended up going to pick up the fish and as I walk in I was immediately appalled by the condition the tank was in. There was tons of molding food on the bottom, the water was murky grey, the plant was covered in fluffy white, and a mixture of other things going on:
(the little specks are not part of the marbles but are actually debris... all of the water was like that as well)
Rushed the poor guy home and cleaned everything. Even the filter was so overgrown with bacteria and junk I had to throw it away because it was unusable. I'm surprised the fish has lived this long in that condition.
He's suffering from mild swim bladder and it looks like he had fin rot at some point. and he's WAY overweight.. (it looks like if I poke his belly he'll pop.)
I think I'll be upgrading his tank since he's way too big for that 1gal...
But for some good news, he's started up a bubble nest already :)
Tank after I cleaned it:
Hope to find a loving home for this little guy, he needs it!
