I'm on a tangent.

I need just a little place to vent. Sorry if this offends anyone.

I'm kind of tired of people and their snippy attitudes toward others. I've seen it a lot lately, and it's somewhat getting out of hand. I know I haven't been a "star" member, but attacking a member over a rookie mistake, really isn't nice. Most of us made not so good decisions when we were new to betta fish. And, I know it isn't my place since I'm not a moderator to point this out to anyone but it's in my nature. Sorry.

Secondly, I'm getting a little sick of people jumping to the WORST possible conclusion in one single bound. I'm not kidding you, I had a brand new fish (couple days being in his new home) and was asking if there was anything that could be possibly wrong wit him and someone told me (I'm not naming names) he had TB. No other symptoms other than being lethargic and shy, no previous illness, nothing to lead to that sensible hypothesis. Or telling me "my fish had that and it died". No one really wants to hear that, unless it's a really severe. My other fish just suffered from some unknown issue and I was told by someone that their fish died. I know sometimes fish have similar symptoms and may or may not pull through but for you to almost immediately post saying that your fish died over this is disheartening. Thanks to Sakura, I put him in Epsom salts and after 2 days he's back to normal.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but lately my experience on here just isn't that great. I used to enjoy getting on here to learn, and get constructive feedback. But now I'm scared to post and either be criticized for my lack of knowledge, or that my fish is deathly ill or have no one reply at all. It saddens me. And again, I apologize for my little rant. I just felt others (especially those who run this site) should know how some of the members feel.

Thanks for reading.

Lizzy... I'm so sorry. :\ I guess some people just get really worried. But I can see both ways, if there was no obvious symptom, then you need to move forward. It's great your Betta got better!! I've been a little snappy but it's because I want to get the point across.

I agree, it's really a shame. This site has so much great info to offer but it does no good if people are so put off by the attitude of the site. I've been put off and don't really want to continue here.

But thank you everyone who have been kind and helpful.

+1

I agree, there are many people on here who have been helpful and have probably saved my fish and my tanks a couple of times. But, there are others that I absolutely hate to see comment on my threads, or on other threads where all they do is point out what the OP did wrong. Luckily, I never posted on here when I first got Dumbledore or I probably would've quit due to how rude some are. I learned, got what I needed, set it up, THEN shared. People still don't know how I kept Dumbledore before his 3 gallon, and they probably never will. Only because, 1. I'm very ashamed of it and 2. I will get so much crap behind it, that I don't even want the headache.

+1 Everyone.
It really bothers me when members pick on other members too. -_- Some people are really trying their hardest, so BE PATIENT.

Especially those who listened to pet store employees. We trust those working at certain stores are specialists. And in some cases they are not. It isn't a users fault, they were just given wrong information.

Hi Lizzy,

I think that speaking openly about your feelings in a responsible and respectful way is healthy! And it let's everyone including the mods know better how to speak with members more effectively.

Sometimes people's communication styles are colored by circumstances that are way beyond anything that happens on the Forum.

I hope you will keep that in mind, and take unpleasant exchanges with a grain of salt. Also, gently and firmly asking people to be kind when communicatin with you might be useful.

I remember that you actually took the time to test your water and post your results. That shows a level of conscientiousness that is good for your fish.

Thank you for expressing yourself in a respectful manner. It shows that you care about the quality of connection in this forum.

Oh, well thank you :)

I just wish everyone would be respectful. I know I don't like everyone on the forum, but I'd never be disrespectful to them. Like my teachers, I don't particularly like one of them, but I would never be rude to her. I feel a lot more would be accomplished, and many people wouldn't be so turned off by the negativity. I actually have been told by another member it's better to speak privately with OFL, Sakura, Olympia, etc rather than post in the forum, just due to the fact you will either A. get wrong information B. be harassed until you want to quit or C. might not get an answer at all. So, how does that make us look as a community?
