Filter output WAY too strong

I recently switched to a 10g tank with an Aquatech 5-15 filter. The output was WAY too strong, so I used the water bottle trick. http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=30139
This helped a LOT, but there's still areas where he's getting blown around pretty bad. He's always loved to hang out by his filter & heater, so despite him getting knocked around, he still goes over there.
The suction on the intake isn't that strong & he doesn't really seem to have an issue with it. Is there anything else I can do? I was thinking about getting some live plants & putting them in the areas where I see him struggling.

if he likes it, i would just keep an eye out and see how he does for a week.
my fish likes the high current and takes breaks in areas where the current is low.

Ok. I was just worried because he's a tail biter, so right now his fins are a little torn up. I feel like a first time mom!!!

Now that I watch him though, he looks like he darts through the fast part & then once he checks out the heater, he goes to the still part of the tank. I'll keep an eye on him. Thanks!
