I am posting for a friend of mine, who just got a Betta a bit over a week ago. His name is Alaric.


Housing
What size is your tank?
30 gallon

What temperature is your tank?

Does your tank have a filter?
Yes

Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration?
No

Is your tank heated?
Yes

What tank mates does your betta fish live with?
2 Panda Cories, 3 Platies (they were placed in this afternoon. He started acting strange in the morning but didn't think he was sick)

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish?
Tropical Fish Flakes
How often do you feed your betta fish?
Small amount, twice a day.

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change?

She did a water change about a week ago. Not sure how often, the tank used to have family fish. She cleaned and got it ready for these guys.

What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change?

Last time she took all out, no fish in it, was to get it ready.

What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change?

Water Conditioner will be used when changed.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed?
Paled in colour around belly and sides. White forming on scales, 'cottony in apperance'

How has your betta fish's behavior changed?
Not blowing bubbles/making bubble nest. Fins kept close to body, not swimming around like normal. No attitude, weak and listless.

When did you start noticing the symptoms?
Today, this morning.

Have you started treating your fish? If so, how?
No. She plans to start tomorrow after school (it is very late here). Water change and salt are planned. He is ISOed out of the 30 gallon.

Does your fish have any history of being ill?
No

How old is your fish (approximately)?
She purchased him last week. He is small crowntail, we pretty sure he is very young. He is smaller then my Crowntail when I purchased him. Not a grown up Betta.

Sorry to hear about the sick Betta. When purchasing fish it is always best to QT them before adding them to the main tank that way if they do have any kind of illness they won't pass it to the other fish. She needs to keep an eye on the other fish since he was in the tank with them. Also, I strongly suggest she test the 30g tanks water with a liquid water test. In any case, he needs VERY clean & warm water. I don't know what she put him in for ISO but hopefully nothing too small. In my experience, most illnesses can be resolved with very clean water. I'm sure others will have a different opinion, I have yet to have to use any meds.
