What do I add to the new water when I do my water changes before adding it to the tank to replace the water removed? Just a dechlorinator as normal?
Yes..if you do frequent water changes of 50% you can add your betta now. I usually have a couple of jugs of tap water, treated with conditioner all ready to add to my tanks.

If you do a fishless cycle then you'll need some source of ammonia.

I did a fish in cycle with my Betta but I was very careful and did the water changes and checked the levels everyday sometimes twice a day in the morning and at night using the API Master Freshwater test kit. Also using Prime as your water conditioners give you more peace of mind because it detoxifies everything for 48 hours, also having some live plants helped, I had Hornwort and Anacharis which were a big help to soak up the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate which never got that high during the cycle so they really helped !!!!
