Attilla dug through the barrier!

the first day we put him in his tank, he jumped it, so we lowered the water level. tonight, i went in and found him, once again, on the other side of the divider, beating up on Ghengis. i was trying to figure out how he go there, and found a corner of Attilla's side where the gravel had been dug out, and he actually pushed a corner of the mesh out of the runners to get through. we blocked that corner off with a rock on his side, and the base of a silk plant on Gengy's to prevent him from opening it up. it's a temporary fix, but as soon as i get my paycheck tomorrow, we're getting Gengy his own tank and Tilly's gonna have the 10gal to himself, he's just too much of a fighter to be trusted in there. As it stands, Gengy's tail is shredded to ribbons and i'm treating him with some warm, salty water and hoping he'll return to his former glory. we were just lucky enough to get to them before Tilly caused any actual bodily harm to him. does anyone know if there are nerve endings in their fins? i just want to know if he felt any pain from his fins getting messed up :(

that they do....i'm just putting him on a 10-day AQ salt regimen because it's supposed to help speed the healing process. i'm gonna be doing daily 25% changes and a 50% every three days to keep it good and clean, don't want him getting any secondary nastiness.

Wow, he is determined! I have two dividers in most of my tanks, with the heater/filter in the center...this way, even if they make it past the first one, they have another before they get together lol. I'm glad no one was seriously injured, and that you have a good solution!

Arghhhhh!!!! This morning when I was doing the breakfast rounds with all of our tanks, I saw that Atilla had pushed the divider apart AGAIN. We are getting a separate tank for Genghis this afternoon, but there's no way i can risk them fighting again, so I put Tilly in a cup until later today. He was mad at me for doing it, but since he's the one that continues to attack little Gengy, I didn't think it was fair to make Gengy go in the cup all day. This is absolutely the most aggressive betta we've ever had. I'm so glad I noticed it before Tilly got through the divider again, because I don't see how little Gengy would've survived another attack. I feel terrible for him!!!! The poor little guy has his beautiful tail ripped to shreds and yesterday his color was completely gone after the attack. Poor little fishie!

well, Attilla is in his own 5gal now...he's on the kitchen table until we reinforce our bookshelf to withstand the weight of his tank, but here he is:
