Smile Betta tankmates?

Hey there, for starters I have a betta in a 20 litre planted tank, I know I can't put many other creatures in with him, but I was wondering what I could put in with him?

He's not aggressive at all, quite docile. I like the idea of the (not sure if what I'm calling them is correct, but...) red cherry shrimp? Not so much the ghost shrimp, as I have heard unsettling things about them.
I know there are a variety of snails? But I was hoping for something more..

Thanks

i have never kept betta's but i have just read a few interesting things

they can live with other fish depending on there temperament

copied from here (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...4183058AAmSKyt) have a read: \/
But Bettas can generally get along with fish that do not:

Produce a lot of waste (Goldifsh, no-no)
Have large fins (No angelfish)
Are fairly passive (With a large enough tank, plecos are great! Smaller tanks, there are smaller types of catfish that get along. But some catfish require the tank to be growing fresh algea before they are introduced to it or they won't survive.
Nothing that moves too slowly and is too small (I wouldn't swear to it, but I'm pretty sure shrimp might become lunch for the Bettas. lol)

sure someone will add to this
