Care for imports?

Everytime I get a imported betta (one bred in the US) it always seems to be short lived or end up dying shortly after spawning. With another male on the way...I want this one to last! So any of you who import regularly do you have this problem and if you do/ dont do you care for them any differently?

Mine had worms. They were never in a tank that housed other fish so they had to have came to me with parasites already. They were quarantined for 10 days with nitrofuracin green but they still showed up with worms several weeks later. I ended up having to deworm them with some API stuff.
Haven't had an issue since. I have decided to deworm all new arrivals while in QT.

My boy from Thailand is so delicate, I've had him since July and he is still recovering from the severe fin biting he did on his tail. I keep at least one whole Indian Almond Leaf in his tank at all times and that seems to help a lot. His fins still have this weird transparent quality all along them but at least I'm seeing lots of regrowth at the tips. He also didn't like the first tank I had him in, I've noticed since moving him that he's much happier. There was no size different between the tanks.
