well, poop is to be expected. they're fed, they poop. but if the bottom was covered in old, molding poop.... :I that's uncalled for.

the dead bettas are.... hhng. if it's just two, i almost wanna say 'that's to be expected', but i know how some pet stores can be. 8I

bettas can't really die from JUST fin rot. there HAD to be other issues. poor boy.

and do you have pics of your new betta? i *love* wild-colored bettas, but have never seen anything other than females and male PKs colored that way. :3

oh, he's pretty. i'd just call him a multi. wild color is usually deep black with red and/or blue on the fins. he looks more blue and red to me. but he's still beautiful. :V

If you think Petsmart is bad, never stop by a Walmart.
I end up with at least one free betta every time I go there just because they look so BAD. I just picked up 2 there (that I got for free). There were 3 in a cup. One was eating the others; I thought 2 were dead. One was actually alive but really sick. There were at least 4 other cups with at least 1 dead fish in them.

At least Petsmart/Petco regularly keep their Bettas in separate cups.

My third betta was from Walmart. He was a VT with fin rot and it never healed right

My local grocery store Meijer carries bettas. I swear I yell at the fish guy once a week. He actually offered me a job to take care of the fish so I would stop yelling at him. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to work for a few more months due to back issues and caring for thirty ten gallon tanks probably is out of my work limits right now. They carry crowntail and veiltail bettas at the store and once I went in with my ammonia test kit to see just how bad it was... 4.0 in the CLEANEST cup.
