A few questions.

When I get home from work, I usually surf the web and aquabid and clean up after my fish. After that I usually have a few questions and comments I want to share on here, so I'm going to post them all at once. I hope you guys don't mind. :]

When I cleaned out Rasputin's tank I found cruddy caked on nasty stuff on his heater, what was it!?! I scrubbed it off with a sponge and it took the paint off the heater with it. Is it calcium build up in the water?

Do I absolutely need gravel to cycle a tank? I HATE gravel. I'm doing a fish-in cycle. I don't really care about the cycle for my own benefits, because I really don't mind doing water changes, but if it's going to happen, I'm not going to stop it. :P

What is a King betta? Is it really a half giant?

I hate aquabid. The fish are so pretty, and I want one..or two...or seven...but I can't afford them. Work keeps cutting back on hours....

A king Betta is a large betta not exactly sure what made it some say giant gene other say B.Pugnax hybrid it requires a 10 gallon miniumum. You do not need sub rate but it is for decoration and provides some biofilm is there a filter? It's impact is determined by tank size.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me and my heater, it is not dangerous, just mineral build up.

I am making my tank without substrate, or bare-bottom because i like the way it looks! I am getting the tank either tomorrow or saturday so i will post pic.

yes, you can cycle without substarte. You BB are almost 95% in the filter media.

Yes, i love barebottom tanks! I am getting a new tank AND betta tomorrow :p
