He just did it right? Just watch the fins make sure it don't get worse. One of my male does . Some betta do it on regular basis my bettas does it about every 5 month. It usually grow back slowly. Don't expect to grow back in a few days it can take weeks. But my have clean edges so watch him make sure it not white,cottony patches. He kind of have black edges though , but he just bit them so watch a few days and make sure if it don't get worse so we can decide if he needs medications.
Ok. That's what I was thinking too. The tips of the anal fin closest to his head, that are dark - they have been like that since he jumped out of his tank, probably 3 weeks ago. They were damaged when he was flopping around and when I picked him up. They've never healed, but they never got worse..where you see the "string" hanging from the anal fin is new. And the back of his anal fin, the split looks like it got a little bigger, but that has been their since the jump. I'm actually glad to hear it may just be tail biting. He seemed kind of mopy last night and this morning so maybe he is bored, maybe a little depressed. I fed him some frozen daphnia and he perked right up. Hopefully it wont make him bloated.
I am keeping a close eye on it though.
