Found on Kijiji:

"I have been rescuing, rehabilitating and/or re-homing Betta Splendas (chinese fighter fish) for years. As a previous breeder I can provide the best care for these little guys and girls.

Please contact this ad if you have or know of someone needing a home. "

Can anyone else spot out a few problems with this Betta Rescue ad?

Let's see, there is the fact that the person used the word "splendas", which is a misspelling of "splendens", and then said "Chinese fighter fish" when they are in fact, commonly known as SIAMESE fighting fish.

*sigh*

Some people.....

I'm religious and I feel different too. I guess it's all what you believe. That's why we have so many different christian denominations. There are different belief's inside of all religions.

I feel stupid asking this but isn't siamese the name for things originating in Siam? I am terrible at geography so please excuse my ignorance. If what I said is correct are they even found there? I thought they were only natural in Thailand? LOL. I feel stupid.

lol Betta Sugar splenda = fake sugar? I dunno. I did kindly reply to them, mentioning "Siamese" then friendily asked what they used to breed. Maybe they will reply. Maybe.

And yes, Siamese refers to Siam - :p as someone already stated hehe

Yes, as previously stated, what was once known as Siam is now present day Thailand. My dad was stationed on a military base there when he was in the army. He is, in fact, a veteran of the Vietnam war era.

He was technically a spy, spending his days in a small, stuffy, non air conditioned room (mind you that its very hot and very humid in Thailand) on the base, listening in on messages that came and went through the Morris code lines. He would translate the messages and those that could possibly be of some interest, he sent along to be analyzed and scrutinized.

He once told me that he used to see the stores there filled with plakats, and that kids would by them all the time to fight them with one another. Apparently its a "sport" to some people, and they even bet money on which fish will win. I find that sickening that people would do that.

He also said that genuine Thai food, the kind you can only get in the actual country, is much better than the Thai food served in restaurants over here in the States. It has something to do with how the rice is grown and such he said. Apparently, long grained brown rice tastes a little differently in the states than it does in Thailand, and the spices and other ingredients as well.
