Question Flaring more often. Bad?

He only flared once before. But the day before yesterday, yesterday, and today, he has flared. Two times before now my face was up close. This time I just looked towards him and he did.

Should he not be on my computer desk?

Well.....bettas are an aggressive and territorial species. xD You get to close to his home, he feels like he should make himself look all big and bad and defend his territory.
Generally so long as a betta isn't full on flaring and going nuts for hours and hours on end, its not a big deal. A little puffing up at one thing or another....you, your finger, a colorful pen or other item near their tank, his reflection...even a few times a day won't hurt him. ;)

Flaring is excersise too, my betta, when I was first bringing him home flared all the way..off and on..then after I put him in the tank, flaring and exploring..now only here and there..but when he does, he opens his fins full..and It reminds me of stretching, like how we do when we are getting tired, as one of my other fishy's does right before the lights go out at night..I decorated his tank on the outside with some spiders and he flared at them..it was too cute:)

Flaring is good for them, so a daily flare session or two will help him rather than hurt him. I say encourage it off and on during the day, it will help his muscles grow strong when flaring out his fins and he will "feel good" about scaring away the "intruder" lol. My boyfriend's betta gets a kick out of chasing and flaring at the back scratcher that looks like a tiny hand.. he will chase it around the tank (it's on the outside) flaring at it. Afterwards he is more active and alert for a bit, I like to think he's swimming around with his chin up going "Yeah that's right, I am so tough!" :)
