No cartridge replacing with the sponge filters. They last forever. Just need a little squeezing to clean them every couple of months.
One 50% change per week once your tank is cycled. That's to remove DOCs and remineralize and stabilize pH.
Plants make no difference in which filter you use, or the other way around. Betta like lots of plants; you might, too. Plus it's good for the water.
Oh, and...I misread. You're setting up a 10g. So that Hydro for 10g will be just fine should you choose that one. It's just that Betta putout so little waste, that even the smaller one will be sufficient.
