Good low light ammonia eating plants & Shrimp Q

I heavily planted my 10 gal but am looking for some good ammonia eating plants too...I dont have a strong light, they are incandecants that came with the tank set. Right now I have sword, crypt, anubias, tropical ferns and umbrella plants..I heard umbrella plants may or may not live fully submersed but we'll see how they do. Are any of these plants good for ammonia? What else could I add to the tank to eat ammonia?

I had tried water sprite and mint charlie, they both died within 2 weeks :(

Most of what I have came from those plastic container plants you buy at petco...thats about all they carry so ill have to order everything else on the net.

So anywho, im looking for a low-mod light plant that loves to gobble up ammonia and is a fairly easy keeper :)

Im also dosing the 10 gal with half a cap of flourish, is this a good choice?
Also I would like to add shrimps to the tank in a couple of weeks if all is well, will flourish be okay for them?

I have java ferns in my tank which I love. Have you considered switching out the bulb to something better?

if you want plants to be good for ammonia, you must get a 6500k cfl. otherwise, even if the plant survives, it will grow so slowly the ammonia uptake by the plant will be negligent

hmmm, this was a walmart 10 gal kit, it didnt say what wattage or k I have, they are incandecant. My only concern would be, if I go with a 6500, seems they sell flourecant 6500s at petco, would it be too bright and lead to more tail biting? Or are they just as gentle as far as brightness as my incandecants? He hated my other flourecants and LED, he kept trying to hide, with my current incan lights he very comfy.
Also would my hood tolerate a high k light or might it fry my hood or melt it?

nvm i just read the AQ section on the link, sound like no more than 15 watts and many have replaced the incandecants with flourecent...as long as it doesnt bother my boy and cause more tail biting I dont mind switching them.

better than the "no light" you currently have XD
plants really cant use the light given off by incandescent lamps

This is true. I love the cfl 6500 daylight myself and replaced all incandescent with them. I couldn't grow a plant for my life before now they grow like crazy. Also bright enough to show me my tank needed a good cleaning. Not very expensive and last a long time.

Those are fine since I believe you would have two sockets for the bulbs in your tank. There are other option, but that bulb works fine.
