Dropsy...

My roommates fish appears to have dropsy. He has been lethargic for a couple of days and today he was breathing really hard. I noticed some pine coning. Thinking about using Maracyn, API General Cure, or API Erythromycin. Anyone have a preference? Can I dose this medication with plants in the tank. there is java fern in the tank.

If your roommate doesn't take care of it, then maybe its best not to treat it at all... it'll go to fishy heaven

Oh no she takes care of him. She really cares about him. She is coming home in a few hours from classes and I was just trying to come up with a group of solutions for her.

OH okay lol, well epsom salt, probably would help, 2 teaspoons a gallon, its caused by fluid build up under the skin which is caused by bacteria, i had a fish once pull through it once, without any treatment... but if its bad, Epsom salt for the first day or 2 and if no improvement then i don't know.. :/

Also does anyone think the plants could have caused this... She bought them two weeks ago and they were in qt for 2 weeks and she added them on Sunday.. Im worried cause my sister added some plants to her tank today not from his tank but from the same bunch that my roomie purchased
